Mathematical Modelling of Biomass Combustion: Packing Conditions Issues
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article follows the authors’ previous works on numerical simulations of biomass drying and devolatilization (Juřena et al., 2009a-b), in which a packed bed of solid fuel particles is treated as a continuous porous medium. The bed model consists of several sub-models describing individual combustion processes. Since packing conditions change markedly during the processes, a proper description of all the phenomena related to it must be included as well. A mathematical model of wheat straw combustion in 1D experimental fixed-bed reactor is implemented into a computer program GRATECAL and effects of bed porosity change and particle volume shrinkage as two important packing conditions parameters are studied. The combustion includes drying, devolatilization and char oxidation. Results from simulations are shown and discussed.

This paper reviews literature on co-firing of coal with biomass fuels. Here, the term biomass includes organic matter produced as a result of photosynthesis as well as municipal, industrial and animal waste material. Brief summaries of the basic concepts involved in the combustion of coal and biomass fuels are presented. Different classes of co-firing methods are identified. Experimental result...

متن کاملAPPLICATION OF THE SINGULAR BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR INVESTIGATION OF PISTON DYNAMICS UNDER POLYTROPIC EXPANSION PROCESS
In this paper a mathematical simulation of a simplified internal combustion engine is presented. To contribute engine kinematics and its geometry, simple relations are derived for constrained motions. The equation of motion for the piston forms a singular boundary value problem. The uniqueness of the solution was studied in the Banach space. For solving governing equations an iterative numerica...
متن کامل3rd Oxyfuel Combustion Conference IMPACT OF CO2 ON BIOMASS DEVOLATILISATION, NITROGEN PARTITIONING AND CHAR COMBUSTION; A DROP TUBE FURNACE ANALYSIS
Biomass oxy-combustion is attracting considerable attention in recent times because it can achieve negative CO2 emission. While different fundamental issues of oxy-coal combustion are being tackled and pilot demonstrations have been conducted at various scales, little is known about the behaviour of biomass under oxy-fuel combustion. This paper investigates and presents the results of the devol...
